This is a phenomenal sounding snare that I built a few years ago. I completely reworked this recently. I polished ,refinished and put new skins on it. THE PARTS ALONE TO BUILD THIS COST $200 . There is a DW magnetic Throw, a DW 3 position BUTT END and DW top and bottom chrome rims. The STAVE SHELL has alternating Walnut and Purple Heart wood segments. IT TOOK 30 HOURS TO BUILD THIS, MY FIRST CUSTOM FLOATING SNARE
Yes it is a bit rustic looking, and weighs approx 12 pounds but is still lighter than the DW EDGE. The sound of this drum can be made very high pitched with a strong snare sound, much like that of a concert snare. It can tightened very high for a crisp marching snare like sound or deeper for a rock sound. When struck in the proper way , it can produce a piercing rim shot
I was able to tighten this drum with only a drum key, while holding the lugs with my other hand, but you may also need to use a 13mm wrench to hold the lugs while you use the drum key.
Please be aware that a FLOATING SNARE tunes BOTH SKINS at the same time, and I recommend that you stick to the same thickness of skins when you replace these skins. There are NO HOLES drilled in this shell.
Dimensions are 14"x6.5"
Note a few visible welding imperfections and a pit in the chrome, but overall this is a snare that anyone would be proud to own.
